“Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young – a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.” Psalms 84:3-4 NIV

I have wonderful memories growing up in the house of the Lord. I remember attending Sunday school as a child, along with Missionettes, choir rehearsals, children’s musicals, hearing my mother weep and pray in the altar, and experiencing moments in the presence of God that marked my life forever.

As a teenager, my favorite place to be was at the church. This consisted of rehearsing for our pastor’s illustrated sermons, youth group, more choir rehearsals, and more time spent at the precious altar, only this time I began having my own experiences of prayer and weeping. In these beautiful moments, I began telling the Lord He could take my life and use it as I surrender my all to Him. The seeds planted in our hearts in the house of God bring forth a beautiful harvest in our lives. Songs we sang, sermons we heard, relationships we formed, all these things shaped us. No matter the places we go in life, literally and figuratively, when we step foot in the house of God, we know we’re home.

The house of God is the safest place we can be. It’s the place where hope and future are found, where brokenness is healed, where purpose and destiny are discovered, and where Godly relationships flourish. In a time where a pandemic has hindered the Church from gathering, it is vital that we make gathering in His house a priority for ourselves and our families. If we don’t come together and gather in the house of God, our families will bear the brunt. But if we do, our families will bear the fruit.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for providing a home where we can gather in Your name and worship You. We will not neglect Your house, but we will run to it and find safety! May we be found dwelling in Your house, ever praising You.
